Call it "neverending white light," "eternity," "perfection," "tranquility,"... Kabbalists say that Upper Light is all that exists, and we have a chance to discover it.

Kabbalists state that there is only Upper Light in which everything, including us, exists. We, in our properties, exist in an opposite form to this Upper Light: the form of the Upper Light is bestowal, giving, and our form is reception.

The reason for all the misfortunes we experience is because of our lack of ability to receive the Upper Light. We, in our properties, can only receive a tiny spark of this Light, called by Kabbalists “Ner Dakik” (“a tiny candlelight”), which comprises our entire lives and all our experiences in this world.

The Upper Light brings us abundance, goodness, fulfillment, and an eternal, whole, and perfect life, without pain and limitations. Why can’t we receive the Upper Light? It is because there is a condition that the Upper Light can only enter according to our equivalence of form with it. Equivalence of form is the law of our perception of reality: We perceive what is outside us to the same measure as our inner properties correspond to what is outside us.

As stated at the beginning, the Upper Light’s property is bestowal, giving. If we, in our properties of reception, add the property of bestowal, we too can enter into equivalence of form with the Upper Light, and to the extent that we do, perceive and feel its qualities of eternity, perfection and wholeness.

What does it mean, to add the property of bestowal? Our properties are our desires. In this world, our desires are aimed entirely at pleasing ourselves. The desire of the Upper Light is only to please us, and it gives us our entire life, our perception, our desires and thoughts to live the lives that we live. However, the Upper Light created us so that we would enjoy the complete delights that it is capable of giving, not just the small pleasures we feel in our earthly existence. For this to happen, we need to start desiring to bestow, to give in the same way as the Upper Light gives to us. The more that we will succeed in building this desire to bestow, the more we will feel the Upper Light in its pure state, and not dressed in all the earthly garments that we perceive from trying to receive in a self-aimed way.

The moment we change our desires from reception to bestowal is the moment we will rise above our self-aimed desires, our temporary lives in this world, and feel the eternal, perfect and whole existence in the Upper Light.
